Did you ever go on a Harvest Holiday?  (13 April, 2010)

Hopscotch Films are making a series for BBC Scotland about 'The Films of Scotland' - a collection of around 160 documentaries made between 1938 and 1982. The films cover a diverse range of subjects - education, industry, culture, tourism and now represent a valuable film archive of how Scotland represented itself in the pre and post-war era.
As part of this documentary series we will also be looking briefly at films made during the war for the Ministry of Information. These films sought to emphasize the contribution that civilians could make to the war effort.
One of these films, entitled Harvest Holiday promotes the work of school children who went on "Harvest Holidays". These "holidays" saw school children performing the work of potato pickers and other agricultural tasks in the school holidays and was seen as their contribution to the war effort.
We are looking to speak to anyone that went on a harvest holiday and has memories to share about it. If you think you have something to share please contact Alfred at Hopscotch Films.
