Scotland - One Family: Scottish DNA project needs your help

25665eb7-9b81-4668-af57-d0164729c983

Living DNA, together with some of the world's top genealogists and scientists is looking to create a worldwide genetic map and is seeking participants to help extend the level of genetic detail throughout Scotland.

The DNA company Living DNA is working with the University of Strathclyde and the Scottish Association of Family History Societies on the One Family project, which aims to create a global genetic map.

The team's preliminary research indicates that at least twenty different regions of Scotland have distinct genetic differences, and now the aim is to determine whether the proposed genetic boundaries are correct and to redefine them based on the genetic data from participants.

How to take part

The project is open to everyone worldwide and has two distinct parts:

  • To create a worldwide genetic map
  • To build a regional genetic breakdown of ancestry within countries. The Scottish part of this project is looking for people with all four grandparents born within fifty miles (eighty kilometres) of each other.

If you qualify for the second part of the project you can either upload your existing DNA results for free at Living DNA or qualify for a discount on a Living DNA test.

You can get started here.
