Mary Queen of Scots Festival 2017

591ee6b2-5ac9-42c7-a9c7-1637c48d75cf

The 2017 Mary Queen of Scots Festival will take place in Kinross on 2 and 3 September, celebrating the area's connections to the Stewart queen.

This year's festival will mark the 450th anniversary of Mary's imprisonment at Loch Leven Castle, where in 1567 she was forced to abdicate the throne of Scotland in favour of her son James, before managing to flee.

The festival programme will include living history encampments, music, food & drink and activities for children, all celebrating the history and heritage of the Kinross area. Among the history highlights are:

  • Am I descended from a royal Stewart? - Dr Bruce Durie
  • Discussion 'the influence of Mary' - chaired by Susan Morrison
  • Jousting display

Entry is free and the event runs on 2 and 3 September 2017. Download the full festival programme at the Mary Queen of Scots Festival website.
