St Adomnan of Iona died on 23 September 704AD.

St Adomnan, Abbot of Iona Abbey (pictured), died on 23 September 704AD.

Adomnan was an Irish monk who came to Iona Abbey in the late seventh century and is best known for his Vita Columbae (Life of St Columba) which as well as giving details of the Saint's life, contains important information on the Picts in Scotland.

Adonmnan was Iona's ninth abbot and in 697AD, created Cain Adomnan, also known as the Law of Innocents, which guaranteed the safety of non combatants including children, women and members of religious orders during times of war.
