Scottish inventor Alexander Graham Bell died on 2 August 1922.
Alexander Graham Bell died on 2 August 1922 at his estate in Nova Scotia, Canada. Bell, who was born in Edinburgh, was best known for early experiments with the telephone, but had a wide range of other interests which he used to inspire various inventions.
During the later years of his life, he became keenly interested in aeronautics, creating a box kite capable of carrying the weight of a human, and a hydrofoil boat.
Bell left a wife, Mabel, and two daughters, Elsie and Marion. He was buried on the top of Beinn Bhreagh mountain close to the family's estate and following his funeral, every telephone in Canada and North America was reputedly silenced in tribute.
