Scottish author George Douglas Brown died on 28 August 1902.

Scottish writer George Douglas Brown died on 28 August 1902 at the age of 33. Brown was born in Ochiltree and completed his education at Balliol College in Oxford after showing promise at schools in Ayr, Ochiltree and Coylton. He initially worked as a journalist, contributing to Blackwood's Magazine and Sandow's Magazine of Physical Culture.

Brown's first novel The House With the Green Shutters was published in 1901, just months before his death of pneumonia. The book was praised by critics for its realistic presentation of Scottish rural life. A follow-up novel The Incompatibles was left uncompleted.
