Scottish singer Karl Denver was born - On this day in history

Singer Karl Denver was born in Springburn, Glasgow on 16 December 1932. Denver's trademark was his ability to yodel - as demonstrated on his hit Wimoweh, released in 1961. He performed across many different generes including pop, folk and music hall.

Denver's birth name was Angus Murdo McKenzie and he adopted the stage name Karl from the name of his late son, and chose Denver following a visit to the USA. His career in the UK began after he was deported from Tennessee for living in the USA as an illegal immigrant.
