A project to upgrade the Museum of the Black Watch in Perthshire has been given a boost with news of council approval for the £3.2 million project.

The Museum of the Black Watch in Perthshire has announced that Perth & Kinross Council has granted approval of a £3.2 million project to upgrade facilities at the museum. The decision means that building work could begin within the next few months, subject to a decision on Heritage Lottery Funding, which would add a further £780,000 to project funds.

MSP Roseanna Cunningham said: 'I am delighted that planning permission has been granted for this ambitious project which will allow the Black Watch Museum Trust to improve the facilities they can make available to visitors to the museum. These improvements will really enhance the castle and could transform it into a very important tourist attraction for the whole of Perthshire.'

Museums officials plan to make a final with fundraising, through the continuation of projects such as 'adopt an artefact' and 'buy a brick'. To find out more, visit the museum's website.
