Enjoy the golden age of Hollywood film soundtracks with our selection of movie favourites including The Adventures of Robin Hood and Captain Blood.

In the May issue of Scottish Memories magazine we take a trip back to the Thirties and Forties when film fans began to enjoy soaring soundtracks as movie making moved away from the silent film era and into a new age of Technicolour and music.

One of the first 'made for film' soundtracks came from Max Steiner, who provided a rousing accompaniment to the 1933 film King Kong:


Steiner's prodigy Eric Wolfgang Korngold followed up with a lively soundtrack to the 1938 film The Adventures of Robin Hood, starring Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland:

Korngold was also to create the score for Captain Blood, which also paired male and female leads Errol Flynn and Olivia de Havilland:
