ScotlandsPeople has announced the launch of their new website, which has been created in response to customer comments.

ScotlandsPeople is the official government source for genealogical data, and is used by thousands of family history researchers every year, and is home to more than 100 million records

On the new site, visitors can now search the records free of charge, paying only when a record is viewed or downloaded, or a certificate ordered. Five categories of records are indexed by name:

  • Civil registers
  • Church registers
  • Census returns
  • Valuation rolls
  • Legal records

Other categories of records are searchable by place and visitors can also search through collections of photographs and illustrations.
