Over 1,300 athletes from 42 different nations attended the 1970 Games in what would prove a year of firsts - the first use of photo finish techology at the Games, the first time metric distances were used and the first time the Queen attended a Games as head of Commonwealth.
Scotland ended up fourth in the medals table, winning six gold and eight silver medals - with Ian Stewart's 5,000 metre victory over fellow Scot Ian McCafferty just one of the highlights:
