Gaelic scholar Ewan MacLachlan, who devoted his life to translating classical works intto Gaelic died on 29 March 1822.
Maclachlan was educated at Aberdeen University and employed as headmaster of Aberdeen grammar school for twelve years. He is famed for his translations of classical works such as The Iliad into Gaelic and was a major contributor to the Gaelic-English Dictionary, published after his death, in 1828.
