Kevin James is Professor of History at the University of Guelph, Canada. His interests lie in Scottish travel history, and the place of the inn and the hotel in nineteenth-century travel networks. He is especially interested in texts generated through travel, with a focus on the hotel visitors' book.

As someone whose career has also been dedicated to community outreach, he enjoys the ways that History Scotland has successfully reached a broad audience to communicate innovative research, and as a Canadian he is keenly aware of the very strong interest in Scottish History outside Scotland's borders that the magazine both satisfies and nourishes.
