History Scotland is the world’s premier Scottish history magazine, with a worldwide readership. We cover thousands of years of the country’s history, from prehistoric times through to the 20th century, and publish articles on Scotland’s history, archaeology and heritage.

We welcome ideas for news items and short features, which can be submitted to the Editor, Rachel Bellerby, by e-mail, who can also supply our style guide on request. We are particularly keen to hear from people who represent community history and heritage groups, work on archaeology projects or have carried out original research.

The Consultant Editor, Dr Allan Kennedy, is happy to receive longer submissions for potential publication as main feature articles, however please note we are only accepting longer features for publication from 2022 onwards. Send your ideas to Allan by e-mail.

Although many of the authors of our in-depth features are university academics, we are also delighted to consider contributions from students, independent researchers and history/heritage professionals. Submissions can cover any aspect of the Scottish past since prehistory, but they should be formatted according to the style guide and e-mailed.
