Corporal Jamie Peters of Jedburgh has won Army Photographer of the Award for his image 'Celtic Warrior'. Corporal Peters, of the Royal Logistical Corps, won the award for images taken during a six month military tour of Afghanistan, where he was deployed as a photographer for the Army's Combat Camera Team. 'Celtic Warrior' shows a soldier of the 1SCOTS cleaning his personal weapon at FOB Shawqat after an early morning patrol to an Afghan National Army checkpoint.

Delta Company The 1st Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland are in Afghanistan to 'mentor and advise the Afghan National Army in conducting operations within Helmand Province so that security can be transitioned to Afhgan National Security Force control'.

Corporal Peters said: 'Being on the Combat Camera Team I was able to see so much of the work that British Troops do in Afghanistan from patrols and operations in Helmand to the Officer Academy in Kabul. I think it is a unique job to travel so much around the country and see so much of our soldiers. Everywhere we went there was a story to tell, from the experiences of the private soldiers right up to the HQ level of planning and executing the missions.

'Our tour was all about transition and redeployment. We covered a large number of base closures and handovers to the Afghan National Security Forces, as well as partnered operations with them. We followed soldiers from the 'front line' patrolling and closing or handing over their bases all the way back to Camp Bastion and onto an RAF aircraft home.'

Back in the UK Corporal Peters works at the Defence Media Operations Centre, delivering training and providing video support to the training school. He continues to travel overseas to capture the Army’s activities, this year notching up trips to Kenya and Cyprus to capture the Army on training exercise.
