John Muir, the Scottish-born naturalist known as the 'Father of the National Parks' was born on 21 April 1838. ...
Muir was the third of eight children born to Daniel Muir and Ann Gilrye. When he was aged eleven, the family emigrated to America and as a university student, he continued his love of the outdoors.
He was responsible for the creation of the Yosemite and Sequoia National Parks in California and is honoured in America by the John Muir Trail and several natural features and parks.
