The Family History Society of Buchan celebrated its fourth anniversary in style with the opening of a new family history centre in the town. John Wallace, Chief Executive of the Peterhead Port Authority officially opened the centre, which is open Monday to Friday, with occasional Saturdays when volunteers are available.

Local MP Dr Eilidh Whiteford, who also attended the opening, said: Family History and genealogical research is becoming increasingly popular and is becoming an important part of local tourism. This fantastic new facility is a credit to the hard work of the volunteers who have taken the Society forward from its formation just a few short years ago.’

Details: Buchan Family History Centre, 22 Harbour Street, Peterhead AB42 2BL; tel: 01779 238416; or visit the society's website.
