Struileag Stories, a new transmedia project which aims to bring together Gaels around the world has been launched by cabinet secretary for Commonwealth Games and sport, Shona Robison.

Struileag celebrates the identity, language and culture of the Gaels and you don't need to speak Gaelic to get involved! Anyone who identifies with Gaelic culture is invited to plot themselves and their ancestors on a global map and upload photos, stories, recipes and video clips.

The project, which is run by Edinburgh-based charity La Banda, received £60,000 funding from the Scottish Government and further funding from Visit Scotland, Creative Scotland and Ambition Scotland.

Jim Sutherland, La Banda artistic director, said: 'History isn’t a thing of the past, we’re making it now!

'Struileag is reaching around the world to tell the story of the Gael, a people scattered to the wind! La Banda is very grateful for all of the support we have received in the creation of this.'

Visitors to the website can also browse stories of bygone Scots, which celebrate their contribution to society, including the stories of Alexander Graham Bell, telephone pioneer; Colin Mackenzie, 'the man who mapped India'; and 'father of Australia' Lachlan Macquarrie.
