On 28 November 1930, W Oliver Brown, the candidate for the newly-formed National Party of Scotland polled 4818 votes in the Renfrew East by-election.

W Oliver Brown, the newly-formed National Party of Scotland's candidate polled 4818 votes in the Renfrew East by-election, making him the first of the party's candidates to save his election deposit. The National Party of Scotland amalgamated with the Scottish Party four years later to form the modern Scottish National Party.
