Scottish footballer Billy Liddell died on 3 July 2001.

Scottish footballer Billy Liddell died on 3 July 2001 at the age of 79. Liddell played for his country 28 times and also played for the Great Britain team in 1947 and 1955. He spent his whole professional football with Liverpool FC, having started signed with the club in 1938, at the age of sixteen.

His career was interrupted by World War Two, during which he served as a RAF navigator, resuming football to become Liverpool's top goal scorer for eight out of nine seasons between 1949 and 1958. He was inducted into the Scottish Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
