The Murrayfield Stadium was opened - On this day in history

On 21 March 1925, Edinburgh's Murrayfield Stadium was opened for the first time - and is still the largest stadium in Scotland, with a capacity of over 67,000. The first team to be hosted at Murrayfield was England, whom Scotland beat for the country's first Five Nations Championship Grand Slam.

During World War Two, the stadium was used as a supply depot for the Royal Army Service Corps. Murrayfield holds the record for the largest attendance at a rugby union match in the UK, which was set in 1975 when Scotland played Wales, watched by a crowd of 104,000.

The stadium has also been used for music concerts, and has hosted Oasis, Madonna, Bon Jovi and the Rolling Stones.
