Oliver Cromwell was signed in as Lord Protector of Scotland, England and Ireland on 16 December 1653.

On 16 December 1653, Oliver Cromwell became Lord Protector of Scotland, England and Ireland in ceremony during which he undertook 'the chief magistracy and the administration of government'. Cromwell was the only invader of Scotland to conquer the whole country and, as Lord Protector, was paid a salary of £100,000 per year.
