Politician George Younger was born - On this day in Scottish history

Scottish politician George Younger, 4th Viscount Younger of Leckie, was born on 22 September 1931 in Gargunnock. Younger was a member of the Younger brewing dynasty, who descended from the first Viscount Younger - also named George, who was born in 1722.

George Younger studied at New College in Oxford and fought in the Korean War with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. He entered politics in 1964 as MP for Ayr and later became Secretary of State for Defence.

Younger died in 2003 at the age of 71.
