The Crown Jewels of Scotland were rediscovered by a search party led by Sir Walter Scott on 4 February 1818. The jewels were found in Edinburgh Castle. Sir Walter had been given permission to carry out his detailed search of the castle by the future King George IV, after the royal became fascinated with the legend of the jewels and their whereabouts.
