A local author plans to create a trail which highlights film star Charlie Chaplin's favourite places in the seaside town of Nairn.

Author John Oliver is planning to create a trail which highlights the film star Charlie Chaplin's connections with the seaside town of Nairn. Chaplin was a regular visitor to Nairn during his later years, often taking the trip from his home in Switzerland, along with his wife and children.

John Oliver hopes that the planned trail, which he estimates would cost around £500,000, would boost tourism in Nairn. He said: 'If I get a small controlling body who is enthusiastic, we can make this happen. The funding application has to be done by an organisation based in Nairn and it takes more than one person. We need the backing of local councillors and we could also hopefully get Lottery funding.'

The trail would comprise around a dozen stop off points and would feature Chaplin statues and information boards.
