Scottish politician and brewer Alexander Keith was born on 5 October 1795. ...

Scottish politician and brewer Alexander Keith was born on 5 October 1795 in Halkirk, Caithness. Keith emigrated to Canada at the age of 22 and founded the Alexander Keith Brewing Company in 1820. Keith settled in Halifax, Nova Scotia, where he became the town's mayor three times and was also a member of various welfare societies, including the Highland Society and the North British Society.

Keith was a Freemason and was appointed Grand Master of Nova Scotia in 1869 and four of the province's masonic lodges were named after him.
