RMS Titanic sank in the Atlantic Ocean - On this day in history

On 15 April 1912, the passenger liner RMS Titanic sank in the Atlantic Ocean with the loss of more than 1,500 lives.

Among the Scots on board were Dumfries musician Jock Hume, who played as the ship sank and First Officer William Murdoch, a Dalbeattie man who was one of those in charge of evacuating the ship's passengers.

Many of the ship's engineers were also Scottish men and most perished in the disaster. They are remembered by a Kellock Brown memorial at the offices of Scottish Opera in Glasgow.
