For more than 25 years, Friends of Dundee City Archives has been working to support the work of archivists in Dundee through raising awareness of the importance of preserving documents which may be valuable to future historians and raising money to help purchase historical papers which would otherwise have been lost to the city of Dundee.

The group runs a series of monthly lunchtime talks on topics of local historical interest and the text of these talks form the nucleus of a regular newsletter which members receive on a regular basis. Members also stay in contact through occasional social events and outings. The group has also published books and pamphlets on the people and places of Dundee.

The group’s website has plenty of information on tracing Dundee ancestors and discovering bygone Dundee, with sections on education, poorhouses, church records, Dundee kirkyards and Dundee in wartime.
