The year begins with our January/February issue, published on 14 December, with articles on the centenary of a landmark women's football ban, mythologising MacBethad, and the legacies of slavery in Glasgow's Southside.
Dr Allan Kennedy, who commissions the magazine's longer articles, said: '2022 promises to be a stellar year for History Scotland. We will be bringing you a wide range of cutting-edge research, including studies of the 'first Scottish Enlightenment', Scottish women in the Spanish Civil War, 17th-century banditry, and the built legacies of Atlantic slavery. Later in the year, we will also be presenting an innovative special issue on everyday life in the Middle Ages. There is, in short, a huge amount of exciting reading to look forward to!'
Editor Rachel Bellerby added: 'As History Scotland enters its third decade we are excited to share the best of Scottish history and archaeology with our readers around the world.
'We are looking forward to being able to share news and dig reports from archaeological digs as Covid-19 restrictions hopefully begin to ease, and to covering the pioneering research that historians around Scotland and further afield have been working on.
'This promises to be a superb year with lots to look forward to and we look forward to sharing Scotland's history, heritage and archaeology with readers all around the globe.'
