Charles II was crowned king of Scotland on 1 January 1651, nine years ahead of his restoration to the throne.

Charles II was inaugurated at Scone Palace on 1 January 1651, nine years ahead of his restoration to the throne following the death of Oliver Cromwell and the restoration of the monarchy.

This was the last time that a monarch was crowned in Scotland - Charles II was also crowned king of England at Westminster Abbey on 23 April 1661.
