What is the Antonine Wall?

The Antonine Wall was a turf fortification on stone foundations created by the Romans, in c.142AD. The wall ran between the Firth of Forth and Firth of Clyde and spanned almost forty miles.

Today, visitors can explore the ruins of the wall, including the stonework foundations, preserved sections of the wall, and also museums along the route, many of which hold artefacts relating to the Romans in Scotland. Find out more at The Antonine Wall website.
