Scottish painter Alberto Morrocco died - On this day in history

Alberto Morrocco, the Scottish-born painter who was famous for his beach scenes and still life paintings, died on 10 March 1998. Morrocco was the son of Italian immigrant parents and during World War Two, was imprisoned in Edinburgh Castle as an enemy alien, later serving in the Royal Army Medical Corps.

Morrocco was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University of Dundee in 1980 and painted the university's chancellor, the Queen Mother. He produced some of his finest works after his official retirement, often creating forty paintings a year.
