The College of New Aberdeen, which became known as Marischal College, was founded on 2 April 1593. ...

On 2 April 1593, The College of New Aberdeen, which later became Marischal College, was founded by George Keith of Inverugie, Earl Marischal of Scotland. The college was built on the site of a former priory and became Aberdeen's second university, with the first founded in 1495 and the two united in 1860.
