The Maid of the Loch paddle steamer was launched on 5 March 1953. ...

On 5 March 1953 the Maid of the Loch paddle steamer was launched, the largest ever vessel to be built for an inland waterway in Britain, and the last in a long line of steamers to sail on Loch Lomond, dating back to 1818.

The steamer was built to replace the older ships Princess May and Prince Edward and was so large that after being built at A & J Inglis in Glasgow she was dismantled and re-assembled at the loch. The ship can be visited at Balloch Pier and enthusiasts hope to restore her to her former status as a passenger carrying steamer.
