On 18 December 1661, the SS Elizabeth was lost off the coast of Burntisland, along with her cargo of Scottish documents.
The SS Elizabeth was lost off the coast of Burntisland on 18 December 1661, along with her cargo of documents being returned to Scotland which Oliver Cromwell had earlier taken to London. The documents had been taken from Scotland on the orders of Cromwell.
