Historian Hakim Adi demonstrates in his new book 'African and Caribbean People in Britain: A History', that from the very beginning, from the moment humans first stood on this rainy isle, there have been African and Caribbean men and women set at Britain's heart. Talk starts at 5pm. Register here.

Hope and Joy, 21 October [DUNDEE}
In this hour-performance, Simone Seales hopes to create room for positive feelings and discussions around the Black Lives Matter movement through the mediums of poetry and music. The audience is encouraged to engage in topics of joy, hope, and love, and to hold their pain and sorrows with compassion. Simone will also be joined by their dance collaborator Taylor Han. Join Stirling Smith exhibitions and events officer Heather Carroll on a tour of Thomas Stuart Smith’s portraits of black sitters. Unmasquing history at Dunfermline Palace, 24 to 28 October [DUNFERMLINE]
Join Historic Environment Scotland at Dunfermline Palace to explore the experiences of Black members of the 17th century Royal court. These sessions aim to bring Black members of court into focus and consider their lives and roles in courtly celebrations and masques through hands-on activities.

The Glasgow Sugar Aristocracy: Scotland and Caribbean Slavery (1775-1838), 27 October [ONLINE]
Dr Stephen Mullen examines the emergence and fortunes of Glasgow West India merchants and planters towards the end of Caribbean slavery, assessing their impact on Scottish industrial, agricultural and societal development.
