10 Our Kings and Queens Month in November brought record numbers of visitors to the History Scotland website – many of whom read Historic Environment Scotland’s blog on Scots who marched into battle alongside Joan of Arc.

9 Claiming the first of two spots in our list, a Mary Queen of Scots-related story about Storm George was a hit with our global audience.

8 National Museums Scotland’s announcement of a pioneering discovery in the Galloway Hoard, which we reported on just last week, made it into eighth place in our top ten.

7 In the seventh spot of our top ten was History Scotland’s online lectures programme – a huge hit with history fans around the world, and now taking bookings for 2022!

6 Digital reconstructions provide us with a great way to enjoy history from the comfort of our own homes and in Scotland’s earliest Pictish fort, we were taken back in time more than 1,000 years. 

5 National Records of Scotland’s fantastic collections were a big hit, as we showed through our report of one million new records added to the collections. 

4 Spot four goes to the family history world, with ten reasons you can’t find your Scottish ancestors.

3 Mary Queen of Scots never fails to fascinate, as our best books about the life of Mary Queen of Scots proves.

2 Just pipped at the post in the top spot is top 100 most popular baby names in 1900 and 1950 – see if your name’s featured…
