John Bell of Antermony served as physician to Peter the Great of Russia, and accompanied epic Russian embassies to China and Persia. David McVey tells his story.

John Bell of Antermony wrote a ground-breaking travel book about his adventures, mixed with Scottish Jacobites in Russian exile, acted as a British diplomat in St Petersburg and eventually retired to live a quiet life on his Stirlingshire estate.
David McVey looks at his life, his travels, his book, the documents he has left behind and, finally, at his leading role in introducing rhubarb to Britain.

Join David McVey for a live c.45-minute illustrated online talk on 26 October, followed by approximately 30 minutes of questions from the audience. The registration fee includes access to the event recording (released the following day) for 7 days after the broadcast.
The event will be chaired by Dr Allan Kennedy, consultant editor of History Scotland magazine.
