More saints in early medieval Scotland, 14 December 2021

06 September 2021
Join Dr Carolyn McNamara for a fascinating exploration of Scotland's early medieval religious sites and their lesser-known saints.

Early medieval Scotland was awash with the comings and goings of saints and the religious sites they founded. While Iona and Saint Columba are perhaps the best known, there were multiple other important sites (and saints) which deserve our attention. These include: Donnan and Eigg; Moluag and Lismore; Maelruba and Applecross; as well as the churches at Rosemarkie and Portmahomack.

Join Dr McNamara on 14 December 2021 at 6.30pm for a 45-minute talk followed by a 30-minute Q&A.

Dr Carolyn McNamara's research has focused heavily on turning the spotlight on early medieval religious sites which have received less attention. In this talk for History Scotland, she will discuss the surviving evidence for these foundations and their associated saints, placing them within the wider context of the early medieval world in Scotland and Ireland; thus helping us to more deeply appreciate the rich ecclesiastical history of Scotland.
