Family Tree and History Scotland host a month-long celebration of genealogy, with blogs, how-to guides and exclusive Zoom talks, focused on tracing Scottish ancestors.
Supported by National Records of Scotland, Scottish Family History Month features a selection of free to access blogs and guides, including content from University of Strathclyde, National Records of Scotland, and Railway work, life and death project, plus an exclusive Zoom webinar series.
The 45-minute talks are followed by a Q&A, giving audience members the chance to put their questions to Scottish family history experts. The programme is:
Making the most of Scottish high court records, 1 February, 1pm (Emma Maxwell): exploring crime records from the perspective of victims and witnesses
Exploring the Scottish census, 8 February, 6.30pm (Chris Paton): find out how to get every last clue from the Scottish census - including the newly-released 1921 Census
Trace your ag lab ancestors, 15 February, 6.30pm (Ken Nisbet): a look at how to find evidence to trace ancestors who worked as a farmer or agricultural labourer
Tracing your Scottish ancestors: from home and for free, 17 February, 1pm (Alison Spring): how to start building your tree with what you already have at home, plus free genealogy resources for tracing Scots ancestors
Scottish DNA case studies, 22 February, 6.30pm (Michelle Leonard): a look at different case studies too show what can be achieved when you combine long-established research methodologies with DNA test results analysis
Scottish marriage records, 1 March, 6.30pm (Fergus Smith): Fergus Smith shares his recent research on Scottish marriage records.
