The Globe Inn at Dumfries is to once again feature a pane of glass which was etched by Robbie Burns almost 200 years ago.

Three verses of a poem etched onto a pane of glass at the Globe Inn in Dumfries have been returned to the inn after an absence of 177 years. The etching was made by Burns using an instrument similar to a diamond stylus however, the pane of glass was sold by the pub's landlord in the nineteenth century, when he fell on hard times. Later attempts to buy back the pane of glass failed and so experts were recently called in to recreate the famous etching, making exact replicas of the lines of poetry.

The replicas can now be seen at the Globe Inn, where a small upstairs bedroom has been furnished in the style which Burns would have known.
