Archaeologist Murray Cook has led a dig to uncover the history of a tribe who lived below the Abbey Craig at Stirling.

Murray Cook, archaeologist for Stirling Council, has led a dig to uncover the history of a tribe who lived in a fort below Abbey Craig, the site of the National Wallace Monument in Stirling. Murray led a group of volunteers at the site of the 1,300-year-old fort, which was first discovered ten years ago, and is believed to have been partially destoryed by a fierce fire, possibly during a siege.

Murray said: 'Scotland has more known vitrified forts than anywhere else in Europe and here in Stirling we have our own that reflects our warlike past. Despite a wealth of information known about the area there is relatively little known about this fort, however. The flames which lit up the sky would have been visible for miles around.'
