The Highland Council has announced that the city of Inverness war memorial is to be updated with the names of those who have died serving their country since 1945.

The Highland Council and the Inverness branch of the Royal British Legion Scotland have announced that the war memorial in Inverness is to be updated with the names of soldiers who have died serving their country since 1945. Families of those killed in post-World War Two conflicts including the Korean and Falklands wars and more recent operations have been asked to get in touch with the Highland Council to apply to have the name of their kin added to the Cavell Gardens war memorial, which was created in 1922 and honours the dead of the two World Wars.

A council spokesman said: 'To enable the authorities to verify the details for the entry on the war memorial, they require as much information about the deceased as possible such as the number, rank and full name of the deceased, ship, unit, regiment, squadron or base, conflict in which the incident occurred.'
