An important collection of Celtic art created by expert artist George Bain has been accorded National Importance status by Museums Galleries Scotland. The George Bain Collection is held by Groam House Museum in Rosemarkie, in the Highlands and is the work of the late George Bain who made in-depth studies of Celtic art and then reproduced the designs that he studied.

The collection, which is the only one of its kind in the world, includes jewellery, paintings and drawings in the intricate Celtic style.

Ray Macfarlane, chairman of Museums Galleries Scotland's recognition committee, told BBC News Scotland: 'The recognition committee unanimously felt that the collection cared for by Groam House Museum is completely unique - there is no other collection like this anywhere in the world and it is an intrinsic part of our culture as it represents Scotland's identity at an international level.'
