Tartan firm Kinloch Anderson has created a new tartan to mark the arrival of the Edinburgh Zoo pandas from China.

A new tartan has been created to mark links between Scotland and China, cemented by the recent arrival of pandas at Edinburgh Zoo. The design of the new tartan is predominantly black and white, to reflect the colour of the panda, with elements of green (for bamboo) and red (for China). The design is also based on the Gillespie Tartan, in tribute to Thomas Gillespie, founder of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland.

Commenting on the new design, Deirdre Kinloch Anderson, senior director at Kinloch Anderson, said: 'Tartan is one of Scotland's greatest icons. Careful attention was given to create a tartan with a meaningful background, with relevance both to the zoo and also to China - and importantly a tartan that people find attractive. We hope that this tartan will "fly the flag for Scotland".'
