Portrait painter Allan Ramsay was born on 13 October 1713.
Portrait painter Allan Ramsay was born on this day in 1713. Ramsay was born in Edinburgh and learned his craft in London and later in mainland Europe, returning to Edinburgh in 1738. He worked on portraits of many well-known personalities of his day including the Duke of Argyll, an image which was later used on Royal Bank of Scotland banknotes.
