The siege of Dunnottar Castle ended on 26 May 1652, when the Royalist stronghold surrendered.
Scotland's last Royalist stronghold, Dunnottar Castle, surrendered to Oliver Cromwell's forces on 26 May 1652, after a siege of eight months. The castle was beseiged in the hope of English forces taking hold of the Honours of Scotland - the royal crown, sword and sceptre.
However, despite the castle surrendering, these items were smuggled out of the castle before the siege ended and hidden at Kineff Parish Church.
