Glasgow-born Gordon Jackson began his career as a draughtsman before the lure of the spotlight called him to Ealing Studios, where he embarked upon a life in film and TV which would include roles in classics such as Whisky Galore!, The Professionals, The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie and The Avengers.

In the February issue of Scottish Memories magazine, we take a look at the career of Gordon Jackson, beginning with his earliest days at Hillhead High School where his love of TV and radio began.

This tribute to Gordon includes a look at his memorable role of the strict butler Angus Hudson in 'Upstairs Downstairs, in which he appeared from 1971 to 1975:



In the 1962 classic naval adventure Mutiny on the Bounty Gordon played seaman Edward Birkett in a stellar cast that included Marlon Brando, Trevor Howard and Hugh Griffith:



In 1969, he starred as Gordon Lowther in The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, the lonely choirmaster who attracts the attention of Jean Brodie, who visits his seaside home:
