Fundraisers at Water of Leith Conservation Trust recently set an unusual fundraising challenge of laying out a mile of pennies to help raise funds for conserving Edinburgh's river.

Last week, supporters of the Trust were invited along to a 'penny mile' challenge where children and adults laid donated pennies out in a long line, a 2.5 hour task which resulted in 70,000 coins being laid. The fundraisers may not have quite achieved their mile goal, but did reach 8/10 of a mile - 30 stone of coins, which organisers believe will amount to around £750 once the money has been counted.
